The Port Hedland Laboratory provides expert testing services across a broad geographic region, including the Mid-West, Gascoyne, Pilbara, and Kimberley areas of Western Australia. Originally starting as an annex facility, the laboratory officially transitioned to a fully operational branch in April 2023, reflecting its growing capabilities and commitment to serving the region’s expanding needs for high-quality materials testing.

The Coffey Testing team in Port Hedland have contributed to various projects, including the GNH Road Widening, the GNH Bridge over BHPWAIO Rail, Spoilbank Marina 4 Redevelopment, Pippingarra Works and BHP Rail Renewal Program.

Our laboratory plays a pivotal role in supporting these projects, offering comprehensive testing solutions ranging from soil and concrete testing to more specialised geotechnical analysis. Luke Redmond

Luke Redmond is the Operations Manager for both Western Australia (WA) and South Australia (SA). He began his career in the construction industry in 2012 with Main Roads Western Australia (MRWA), where he gained hands-on experience in construction materials testing, including soil, concrete, asphalt, bitumen, bitumen spray calibration, and FWD testing.

After a two-year hiatus from the industry in 2016, Luke returned in 2019 as a Laboratory Manager. He was promoted to Metro Operations Manager in 2020 and later to General Manager in 2021 at CiviTest PTY LTD.

In 2022, Luke joined Coffey Testing when he was recruited by WA/SA/VIC General Manager Franco as the Perth Laboratory Manager. He then advanced to Regional Manager in early 2023 and took on the role of Operations Manager for both WA and SA in early 2024.

Luke has worked on a large scope of projects such as:

  • Gateway WA,
  • City East Alliance,
  • Northlink Stage 2,
  • HRH
  • TCL, and
  • YRE, just to name a few.

Port Hedland, Pilbara Region Projects

The Coffey Testing team were mobilised to site in early December 2023, with ongoing work until mid-March this year.
The Coffey Testing – Port Hedland Team are conducting a test that consists of a 3.6km rail spur, which will allow the twin access to the MAC train load out.
The Coffey Testing team in Western Australia have been contracted by Ertech to supply testing services for the Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) Shore Crossing Project.
Coffey Testing supplied a variety of geotechnical and materials testing services as well as associated quality assurance activities for multiple contractors on the Gorgon Gas Project – Barrow Island.
Coffey Testing provided concrete testing and aggregate testing alongside Boral for Bechtel which included the testing of over 478,000 m3 of concrete and 940,000 ton of concrete aggregate.
