Crafting a Career: Cameron's Journey with Coffey Testing

Continue reading to find out more about how Cameron Bik, NSW and ACT’s General Manager, learnt the art of creating his dream role through the culture of Coffey Testing.

Introduction

Meet Cameron Bik, the General Manager for Coffey Testing’s ACT & NSW regions.

Cameron is a true testament to working hard and creating his own path, that aligns with the business’ opportunity for professional growth in individuals.

Early Days at Coffey Testing

Cameron came into Coffey Testing in a very pivotal moment in his life.

He states, “I started working at Coffey Testing straight out of high school. I had no idea about anything that we were doing.”

Throughout his career, he has gained a profound knowledge of Construction Materials Testing properties, trial design and pavement profiles across NSW and ACT.

“I’ve been told that this is a blank canvas, and if I wanted to push the business in this particular direction and it makes sense for the business… I’ve definitely been supported the whole way.”

Crafting His Career

Considering his background in soil technics, Cameron already had a previous understanding of treatment options that were available to overcome poor materials may have been removed from site and disposed at landfill.

Cameron says, “I’ve come through a bit of a different path in Coffey Testing, and pushed myself down a route that involves pavement investigation and pavement design.”

Throughout his time at Coffey Testing, Cameron has gained a wide range of accreditations and diplomas to support his knowledge that is then provided to clients.

These include but are not limited to:

  • Fundamentals of Roads and Pavements,
  • NATA Signatory, and
  • Diploma of Laboratory Technology.

“I’ve done post-grad courses in Pavement Technology as well, and that has all been supported through Coffey Testing.”

Cameron has been heavily involved with pavement rehabilitation and stabilisation design for nearly 2 decades, which has proved to be monumental for his clients, who have managed to save millions of dollars re-using materials onsite, avoiding the costs of importing new pavement materials, as well as removing and disposing of in-situ materials.

Where is Cameron Now?

Cameron has worked for Coffey Testing since 2007 and enjoys working here as every day is a different challenge.

Alongside his experience in material and pavement investigation, he feels as though he has been supported through every endeavour that he has taken since joining the Coffey Testing team after finishing school.

“We can be so reactive, and it can be a challenge at time, but it’s one of the reasons I come to work each day…

“I love the challenge, and I love being able to think about providing solutions to so many projects every day. I love the challenge!”
